You think you know someone, and then you realize that there’s more than meets the eye.
Grammy Award winning artist Warren Haynes has been recognized as a cornerstone of the American music landscape and revered as one of the finest guitar players in the world. Throughout his prolific career as part of three of the greatest live groups in rock history – Allman Brothers Band, Gov’t Mule and the Dead – his virtuosic artistry has led to thousands of unforgettable performances and millions of album and track sales. Despite all of the ground that Haynes has covered on his musical journey, the impressive thing is that he still has many miles to explore. On his newest solo album Ashes & Dust, he puts forth one of his most gorgeous, musically rich and personal albums to date. It is endlessly exciting to see one of the most brilliant minds in modern music shine an entirely new light on the depths of his creativity.
Ashes & Dust, only the third studio album Haynes has ever released under …

Willie Farmer is living proof that Mississippi continues to produce deep blues. The 62-year-old guitarist is neither a soul modernist nor revivalist, but simply a small-town auto mechanic who’s never shaken his love for old school legends like Muddy, Wolf and Lightnin’.
A lifelong resident of tiny Duck Hill, located in the hills east of the Delta, Farmer grew up on the family farm. He first took up the acoustic guitar in his early teens, and through picking cotton soon saved up enough money to buy an electric instrument.
He played for audiences at home and at school events and learned …

With each release, Katy Guillen & the Girls take new strides toward enhancing and expanding their creative process. In five years as a national touring act, the trio has shaped a musical identity rooted in the blues, taking cues from the timeless guitar riffs of Jimi Hendrix to the visionary songwriting of Patty Griffin and the indie rock revivalist sound of Heartless Bastards.
Katy Guillen & the Girls have amassed a substantial following across the country for their vivacious brand of roots rock. In addition to being one of Kansas City’s most distinguished acts, they have performed at such high-profile events as the Montreal International Jazz Festival and the King Biscuit Blues Festival, and opened for major acts like The Doobie Brothers and Robin Trower.

A seasoned guitarist who picked up her first guitar at age 8 and began participating in blues jams around Kansas City at 14, Katy Guillen established the trio in 2012, when she was offered a support slot for blues supergroup …

Melvin Taylor was born in 1959 in Jackson, Mississippi. His musical roots however have always been in Chicago, where he moved with his music-loving, guitar playing family when he was 3 years old. The proverbial musical prodigy, started playing guitar at age 6. He learned from his uncle Floyd Vaughan, and his great aunt, Rosetta Tharpe. Melvin was influenced and inspired by some of the world’s greatest blues players - many of whom lived in or near his Chicago neighborhood - Albert King, Jimmy Reed, Wes Montgomery and later Jimi Hendrix.
By the time he was a teenager, Melvin’s incredible ability and unique style was already grabbing attention on Maxwell Street. In 1980, he joined veterans Pinetop Perkins, and “Big Eyes” Willie Smith of the Muddy Waters Band to form the Legendary Blues Band and tour Europe. Melvin made an immediate impact on the European circuit, and while in France, he cut his first two albums - Blues on the Run(1982), and Plays the Blues for You (1984).

Travellin' Brothers Feat. Ina Forsman "PRETTY MESSED UP" Festival Jazz San Javier 2018

It takes a special artist to snatch triumph from the jaws of disaster. Rewind to 2016 and everything was going right for Ina Forsman. The 24-year-old singer had gone from Finland’s best-kept secret to Ruf’s hottest new signing. Her self-titled debut had wowed the music press, from Classic Rock (“dynamite voice”) to Blues Blast (“debut album of the year”). She’d blazed her reputation in the US and Europe on that year’s Blues Caravan tour, and couldn’t slow the torrent of new songs that flowed from her. Then fate threw a curveball. While gigging in New York, Ina lost her phone – and with it, every last scrap of new material. A lesser artist would have crumbled. But as you’d expect from a road-warrior who paid her dues under blues heroes like Guy Verlinde and Helge Tallqvist, Ina stood tall, breathed deep, wiped the slate clea…

Towering overhead at 6'10", you could easily make a case that there's no bigger blues musician than Big Mike Griffin.
Big Mike comes from a proud tradition of journeyman blues musicians.  He has performed on stages across North America and Europe; every place from juke joints and roadhouses to Turner Field and Riverfront Stadium.
Big Mike has also been a biker for more than 30 years. His love of both music and motorcycles spawned a new type of Motormusic that has been widely accepted as a new and exciting form of Blues/Rock.

Born and raised in Lawton, Oklahoma, Big Mike was introduced to music at an early age. "My Dad played so there was always a guitar or fiddle laying around the house. It seems like I've been playing as long as I've been alive."  Later, he began listening to blues artists like T-Bone Walker, Paul Butterfield, and Mike Bloomfield. His blues education was further enhanced by late night highway trips to Texas to …

A great concert arranged by Stockholm Blues Society. The Alabama Lovesnakes deserves to be discovered by international blues fans. A special thank to Arne Swedin and all the volunteer workers at Stockholm Blues Society who make it possible to enjoy great live blues music in Stockholm.

Support Stockholm Blues Society by becoming a member for only 200 SEK per year. Here you can get more information about membership and future scheduled blues gigs: http://www.stockholmblues.se

The concert was filmed and recorded in mono with a regular iPhone. However, the audio was repaired with the help of Izotope Ozone RX7 Standard and mastered in Izotope Ozone 8

The Alabama Lovesnakes was formed in 2006 in Karlstad, Sweden, during the recording of Claes Nilsson’s country project ”The Wheels”. Late nights in the studio aroused an irresistible feeling in the band that just had to break loose – with the blues. Twelve years down the road, the band is sti…

Brother Yusef has been described as a master solo guitarist, as well as a uniquely passionate vocalist. His performances are as raw, honest and real as the genre has ever aspired to be. Honed over thirty years, he calls his multifaceted style, fattback blues for it’s a rich mix of Delta , Chicago and Texas blues alongside a hard driving Louisiana stomp. Fattback Blues combines "traditional" fingerpicking and slide guitar playing with the contemporary feel of urban blues, rock and funk.  He uses his right hand thumb to beat out a percussive bass-line and shuffle, while the index finger plays rhythm and lead lines, creating a full band sound with a solo guitar.
Born in Bakersfield California and later moving with his family to Southern California, Yusef picked up the guitar at 19 experimenting jazz, reggae, and R&B. He would find himself at a musical crossroads in 1989 while paying his last respects to his grandfather at his childhood church. A soloist at the funeral playe…
