SUPERHARPS

This edition of Telarc´s SuperHarps features some of the modern day giants of the instrument. Counted up in the lineup are James Cotton, Charlie Musselwhite (a mainstay on the scene since his days working under the tutelage of Big Walter Horton on Chicago´s Maxwell Street), Sugar Ray Norcia (fresh from a five year stint with Roomful of Blues and former leader of a great little East Coast outlift known as Sugar Ray and Bluetones), and Billy Branch, who has played with James Cotton, the late Junior Wells and Carey Bell on Alligator´s Harp Attack and has also been doing blues in the schools for several years now.
The backing band is no less stellar(with most being Bluetone alums) counting up Kid Bangham on guitar (former member of the Fabulous Thundedrbirds after Jimmie Vaughn left to pursue a solo career), Michael "Mudcat" Ward on upright bass (member of Jay Geil´s Bluestime for five years and currently walking the strings whith Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters) in the mix, along with AnthonyGeraci and Daviv Maxwell on piano , and the very swinging drums of Per Hanson, one of the top players in blues today. On this disc, you´ll find a variety of harp styles, in all shades of blue; from scorching dueling harps on " T.D´s Boogie Woogie" tho the laid back acustic blues tune "If Should Have Bad Luck" featuring Charlie Musselwhite on guitar, vocals, and harp (with James Cotton joining in the fun and taking Charlie back to Memphis) to some groovin´and some plain old all time greats have passed on to Blues heaven, but one listen to this disc and you´ll realize that blues harp is very much alive, well, and thriving.
