KURT CRANDALL

The personal and musical journey of vocalist-harmonica player-songwriter Kurt Crandall has taken him from Maine to Virginia, Kansas City (where he recorded the 2004 CD TRUE STORY), Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Chicago, Seattle and now back to Virginia (Richmond). With a healthy inspiration from the brilliance of the late, great William Clarke, Crandall has established his own voice as a master of jump, jive, swing and deep blues, a purveyor of fat-toned, inventive and relentlessly swinging chromatic and diatonic harp, and a composer of originality, humor and keen powers of observation. Like Clarke, Crandall leavens the jazziness of his approach (including enough savvy musical quotations to punch his or any listener’s Hip Card) with the timeless and powerful grit of down home blues.

Whether it’s solid 1950s Windy City blues grooves and ambience, jazz-inflected west coast swing, vocal harmonies and banter, or churning rock & roll, it’s all done with taste, class and easy prowess on GET WRONG WITH ME, with bounteous smiles and listening variety (but with coherence and continuity too) along the way. Crandall and cohorts have a lot to be proud of with GET WRONG WITH ME; no doubt even William Clarke is tapping his feet and nodding in approval from his current plane of residence.

El viaje personal y musical del vocalista-armonicista y compositor Kurt Crandall le ha llevado desde Maine hasta Virginia, Kansas City (donde grabó el CD en  2004 TRUE STORY )  Washington, DC, Atlanta, Chicago, Seattle y ahora de vuelta a Virginia (Richmond). Con una inspiración sana de la brillantez de la epoca tardana , del gran William Clarke, Crandall ha establecido su propia voz como un maestro de jump , jive, swing y Blues profundos, un proveedor de, inventiva e implacablemente moviéndose entre la  cromática y la diatónica, y un compositor de originalidad, humor y agudo poder de observación. Al igual que Clarke, Crandall ,hace fermentar la jazziness de su enfoque (incluyendo bastantes citas musicales con experiencia para con su punch hacer disfrutar a  cualquier oyente) con el poder  eterno y poderoso de los downhome blues . 

Ya se trate de los sólidos 1950's   City Blues grooves   ambiente, jazz inflexión de la costa oeste , armonías vocales y bromas, o cocktel  de rock & roll, todo se hace con gusto, clase y fácil destreza en Get Wrong with me , con sonrisas generosas y escuchar variedad (pero con coherencia y continuidad también) a lo largo del camino. Crandall y colegas  tienen mucho de qué enorgullecerse con este tema ; sin duda incluso William Clarke está moviendo  sus pies y asintiendo con la cabeza en señal de aprobación de su plano actual de residencia.
