Slick Nick Schnebelen is a Kansas City based blues and roots influenced artist. As a member of the band Trampled Under Foot, Nick has been well established in the Blues, Roots and Americana genres for a number of years. As a multi-instrumentalist, he combines drums, guitar and singing into one show. Nick began playing the kick-drum and guitar while in the studio on a recording session in Philadelphia and has since been writing stomp-style roots music ever since. Mainly influenced by his childhood in the Southern Missouri hills, Nick incorporates a variety of guitars in his show from electric, lap steel, fingerpicks and slides on the dobro creating a sound uniquely down home, rocking and friendly.
Born in Kansas City, Nick has lived a long life of music in a short amount of time. Nick first started playing instruments at a young age playing piano with his mother and later learning guitar with his father. Nick's parents were a fixture in the Kansas City music scene. His parents had a band called Little Eva and the Works in the 90s which made quite an impression on the KC blues scene during that time period. Spending a lot of time at his parents gigs and frequenting poetry readings both influenced his appreciation for music and many other forms of art.
He attended Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts graduating in 1996. Before and during his time at Paseo, he performed at night with his father cutting his teeth in the blues world.
In 1997 he moved to Philadelphia, PA. It was in Philly where Nick quickly formed a band called, "Killing Floor." Quickly gaining notoriety as one of Philly's top blues acts, KIlling Floor won many city wide awards. Later changing the name to K-Floor. K-Floor toured nationally, but mostly the eastern seaboard. They toured until 2003.
Nick then began playing guitar with the band Buddahead. The band was a NYC based Brit-Pop Singer-Songwriter group that toured nationally.
During this time Nick also began playing blues with his brother and sister forming the band, "Trampled Under Foot."
In 2008 TUF won 1st place at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. In addition, Nick also won the Albert King Award for the most promising guitarist. This put them on the national/international blues festival circuit.
In 2010 the band put out their first major album "Wrong Side of the Blues" with producer Tony Braunagel and Vizztone Records.
July 9, 2013 TUF and producer Tony Braunagel released their latest record "Badlands" on Concord-Telarc which garnered #1 on iTunes and Billboard Blues Charts.
Currently in 2014 Nick tours full time with Trampled Under Foot. He also is developing his solo career project on the side and teaching guitar lessons in KC when he has the chance to be home with his family.
