Artist Biography in allmusic 

Born  4 June 1928, Thilbodaux, Louisiana, USA, d. 31 October 1995. Blues bass player Lloyd Lambert was best known as the band leader of Guitar Slim’s band, who enjoyed significant national popularity in the 50s. After initially training as a trumpet player, he had his first break with Hosea Hill’s Serenaders. He then formed a touring band, largely comprising former members of the Serenaders, for Guitar Slim, after the latter had secured a contract with Specialty Records. Lambert’s electric bass (at that time an innovation) was present on all the recordings made by Slim for Specialty and Atlantic Records, and he also backed Little Richard and Ray Charles. He recorded his own solo record for Specialty, an instrumental entitled ‘Heavy Sugar’. Following Slim’s death in 1959, Lambert toured for a time with Nappy Brown, then settled in Houston. For most of the 60s he was employed in session work for the Duke and Peacock labels. Eventually, he returned to New Orleans, and in 1981 formed his own Dixieland band, playing at the Maison Bourbon for the remainder of the decade. In later years he helped to resurrect the career of James ‘Thunderbird’ Davis, who had formerly opened for Guitar Slim. Lambert died of cancer in 1995.

Pionero en el uso del bajo eléctrico. Su banda estaba formada por él mismo en el bajo, Lawrence Cotton  en el piano, Joe Tillman,  Gus Font y Clarence Ford en saxofones, Oscar Moore en la batería y John Gerald en la trompeta. Tocaron durante algún tiempo  en el Dew Drop Inn, un importante club de música en Nueva Orleans.

Una de las relaciones más importantes de Lambert fue con Eddie "Guitar Slim" Jones, que se basaba en la Orquesta Lambert Lloyd para todas sus grabaciones en la etiqueta de Specialty  Guitar Slim, fue un guitarrista de blues estadounidense cuyo Hit, "The things that I used to do " (1953 SP-482) hecha al Salón de la Fama TOP  500, Rock and roll con un joven Ray Charles como pianista invitado para la sesión.

La banda de Lambert se convirtió en el grupo de sesión  para todas las grabaciones especiales, acompañados de Guitar Slim, para otros artistas de la discográfica , incluyendo Little Richard.

Como músico de estudio con mucho talento, Lloyd se puso a trabajar con algunos de los principales escritores y artistas de la época, tales como Jerry Leiber, Mike Stoller, Richard Penniman, mamás Mableyand Nappy Brown.

Con su mismo  nombre, Lloyd Lambert también produjo algunas de sus propias grabaciones. Una de ellos in single en  noviembre 1955 con dos pistas instrumentales, "Cotton King " & Heavy Sugar.
