CYNTHIA GIRTLEY
ABOUT ME
Cynthia Girtley was born and raised in New Orleans, La on the westbank of the Mississippi River in an area known as Algiers. Cynthia is a testament of a family with deep-seated spiritual beliefs and a splendid musical background.
Blues
Cynthia's musical career gave her an opportunity to travel extensively and perform in a number of areas such as : Europe, touring in Brazil, singing traditional gospel, jazz and blues. She has had the opportunity to appear at major festivals and concert venues, for example: The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the National Cathedral in Washing , D.C.., the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, the Global African Festival in Dallas, TX, the Cincy Blues Festival in Cincinnati, Ohio, and the Bourbon Street Festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil, along with the pleasure of performing at the Super Bowl Celebration in 2013. A highlight in her career was having the privilege to work with, perform and record with New Orleanian Jazz Historian and world renowned clarinetist, Dr. Michael White.
At the age of four years old, after she was baptized and had taken her first communion, Girtley began singing in the Mt. Pilgrim 4th Baptist Church's youth choir; and at the age of ten years old she acquired the ability of playing the piano: quickly becoming one of the lead soloists. Girtley soon began singing with her siblings in a group, known as the "Girtley Sisters", performing for special church programs. She also became the full-time pianist for the Young Peoples Choir. While attending high school, at sixteen years of age, Cynthia joined a gospel group known as the "Glory Travelers". As Girtley journeyed into her college years, attending Xaiver University and majoring in music performance, she sustained a singing career, as well as playing the piano and directing numerous choirs for churches throughout the city of New Orleans. Girtley, after graduating, moved to Washington D.C. where she served as Minister of Music for innumberable churches and denominations while in the D.C.- Maryland Metro Area.
