James Sedgwick is a Canadian born singer and multi instrumentalist. His music career began after undergoing surgery in both eyes at the age of thirteen. The recovery period left him unable to attend school, read, watch TV, play sports or do much of anything except listen to and play music. Starting with a cheap harmonica and a thin instruction booklet James began a career that has spanned twenty five years and four continents.

James studied music at Concordia University in Montreal with a focus on theory, harmony and ear training.

Matching his passion for music is a passion for travel and experiencing different cultures; this has led to him living and playing in France, Spain, the UK, Mexico, Nicaragua and South Africa, always with a keen ear and a love of learning. He has played on festival stages in front of thousands and in small weddings in rural Central America and is equally happy to share the stage with legends such as blues giant Jr. Wells in Chicago or Dutch Mason in Canada and street musicians in Mexico City and Cape Town. His musical palette is eclectic and he has performed and recorded in styles as varied as Blues, Jazz, Reggae, Latin, Country and Electronic music.

James received his Instructor’s certification from Yamaha Music Schools in Mexico in 2013 and from Vocalstudio.es as a vocal coach in Spain in 2018. He is an active teacher and vocal coach and has a passion for helping students improve.

In July of 2018 James and his family relocated to Barcelona where he has been teaching and playing in a jazz / swing duo “Los Gatos del Swing”, alongside established Barcelona artist Mr. Shingles and Balta Bordoy, with his jazz trio “Los Victrolas” and as a solo performer.
