About this Event

Six Generations of the Blues from Mississippi to Chicago

This is a rare opportunity to enjoy a show with a historic lineup that includes six generations of distinguished blues musicians, all of whom recorded for Chicago blues label Earwig Music Company. The film takes an in depth look at contemporary Chicago Blues, tracing its roots to rural Mississippi.

The audience will be up close and personal with 93-year-old Grammy Award Winner, guitarist David 'Honeyboy' Edwards, the last living link to Robert Johnson, tells his story about his first meeting with Johnson in Greenwood, Mississippi and his journey to Chicago. John Primer – the last lead guitarist in the Muddy Waters Blues Band, is interviewed, along with Big Jack Johnson and the Oilers – the quintessential electric Mississippi Delta Blues trio. The next generation Chicago-connected musicians include Aron Burton, Bob Corritore, Chris James, Dave Specter, Patrick Rynn, Johnny Drummer, Rodney "Hotrod" Brown, Rob Stone, Tom Crivellone, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, Kenny "Beedy Eyes" Smith and Allen Batts. Mississippi based musicians Terry "Big T" Williams, and Lee Williams also perform.

Compelling interviews with Earwig CEO Michael Frank, Delmark/Jazz Record Mart's Bob Koester, and legendary journalist/oral historian Studs Terkel, offer their unique perspectives on the Chicago Blues scene. Also featured are archival interviews with Blues Legends H Bomb Ferguson and Sunnyland Slim.
