RUSSELL JACKSON

Born in Memphis and starting his career in 1974, Russell Jackson moved to Chicago in 1976 and gained his blues "stripes" working with Otis Clay, Buddy Guy, Bobby Rush, Lucky Peterson, Charlie Musselwhite , Willie Nelson, and many more.

From 1979-1986 Russell toured exclusively with B.B. King recording five live albums. During this period he was the first to put slap bass onto a live blues recording.

From 1988 to 1992 Russell recorded and toured with Silent Partners, Matt Guitar Murphy, Katie Webster, Charlie Musselwhite, Kenny Neal and Willie Nelson (Farm Aide ll & lll). With Silent Partners they were the house band for Antoines in Austin, TX.

In 1992 Russell relocated to Canada and formed The Russell Jackson Band where he toured Canada and the U.S.  At this time Russell recorded 3 albums with his own band and also recorded with Long John Baldry and many others. He also joined forces with Kenny "Blues Boss" Wayne in 1995 to present touring and recording 10 albums, one being a Juno award winner.

Russell relocated to Houston, Texas and also maintains a home in Vernon, B.C. Canada and has regained his reputation on the stand-up bass. Russell had  joined forces with the newly created B.B. King Blues Band that debuted at the 2016 New Orleans Jazz Festival with many special guests. They also performed on  Austin City Limits 2016 Hall of Fame as the host band which aired December 31, 2016 on PBS featuring Bonnie Raitt, Willie Nelson, and many special guests. They followed up with the recording of "Soul Of The King" which debuted on the Billboard Blues charts as #1 and maintained that position for many months. This band toured the US and Tokyo with Tito Jackson until Covid -19 struck.

During COVID Russell recorded two albums with Kenny "Blues Boss" Wayne, the latest being a tribute to Memphis Slim and Willie Dixon entitled "Blues From Chicago to Paris". The trio will be touring with this album in 2022 and 2023 throughout the world.

Most recently in 2022 Russell reunited with Tony Coleman (who also toured with B.B. King) to reintroduce Silent Partners adding Jonathan Ellison (King Of Beale St.) and recorded a new album soon to be released by Little Village.

The Russell Jackson Band continues  touring in addition to pursuing these other projects.
