Brother Tyrone & the Mind Benders

Born in New Orleans, Brother Tyrone is at the forefront of the thriving R&B scene in New Orleans and often seen as the “underground legend” performing legendary stints at The Golden Pheasant, The Candlelight, Grease’s Bar, The Fox Lounge and Guitar Joe’s House of Blues.

Locals like Jessie Hill, Ernie K-Doe, Walter “Wolfman” Washington and Tommy Ridgley vied for the opportunity to sit in and upstage the young singing phenom. His group, The Riverside Band, featured legendary bassist Richard “Tricky Dick” Dixon (Lee Dorsey, Fats Domino, Eddie Bo) and pianist Marcel “49” Richardson (Roy Brown, Lee Dorsey, Allen Toussaint).

In 1999, Brother Tyrone entered the recording studio and cut Blue Ghetto. The record, made in a single day, received intense radio airplay in New Orleans, and can still be found on the jukeboxes at many of the small bars and taverns in the city. The record also brought Tyrone to the attention of a much broader audience, and festival appearances, including the 2001 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, live radio broadcasts and larger gigs followed.

The release of this second album, Mindbender, met with accolades from soul music aficionados all over the world, as his deep blues quickly spread from New Orleans to Jackson to Chicago, to Europe and beyond.
