BIO :  ( Artist web site )

Originally from Tasmania,

Liza started out in music playing Piano and Recorders (seriously), and at a young age singingwith her mothers Gospel/Choral singing group. This gave her a urge to pursue a career in singing, and a special love of Soul and Gospel music. She grew up touring and supporting Sydney bands in the Mountains, and then moved there, where her love of artists such as Tony Joe White, Ann Peeebles, and Gladys Knight led her to immerse herself into the Blues,Jazz, soul and funk scene.

INFLUENCES /STYLE
From her mothers singing group, and growing up watching old B&W Movies with all the Black American Jazz and blues music, she developed a real love of spiritual music and especially Blues!! Her voice has a deep rich tone of Etta & Mavis but can reach the highs of Aretha & Ella, and has a unique style of scatting. She has been described as “Relentless, earthy” “One hell of a voice” and” a voice that can howl, growl or soothe a savage brow”..Her background has seen her develop into a torch style singer, highly emotional and always with a poignant or witty story to tell - Also she did a lot of Slightly vaudeville theatre stuff with her mum when young, so she loves to put some theatre into her shows.
GIGS/FESTIVALS
Liza has been a constant at major venues and festivals nationally and has shared the stage with national and International artists such as Tony Neville (Neville Bros, Harry Connick) Regina Valesquez, Richard Clapton, Continental Robert Susz, Jon Stevens and many more…She was headhunted for the role of Janis Joplin in PEARL the Janis joplin story a theatre rockumentary, ( the only show to be given the approval of Janis’s estate) and played in sold out theatres and venues for 3 years to stunning reviews.

ALBUMS
Liza’s first dedicated Blues/Jazz/Gospel album “Trouble Goin’ Down” won her 3 prestigous Australian Blues Chain Awardsand her husband Greg won producer of the year with her. Her 2nd album Give you hell saw her nominated a finalist as Blues Artist of the year (the only female) Her recent CD Mercy Train got to no 1 in Australia and stayed a record 19months, charted in the top 20 in the UK , In the U.S. it reached no 2 on the international charts & no 5 on the Classic Blues charts ( against Taj Mahal & Muddy water to name a few) and stayed in all US charts for over a year and was no 21 on the best albums of 2019.
