SAMUEL "BABY " LOVETT
American drummer (born September 23, 1894 in Missouri - died in 1989)
At the age of twelve, Lovett began playing with William Geary “Bunk” Johnson’s band in Storyville, the notorious New Orleans red-light district. By 1927 he settled in Kansas City, where he built a career as a sought-after drummer. In the 1940s, he frequently accompanied blues singer Julia Lee, with whom he performed at the White House in 1949, at the invitation of President Harry Truman.
