KING ZEPHA * PREZ *
Oooooh yes KING ZEPHA has made an album of pure happiness and joy, just in time for the summer. It’s coming in June, but the build up STARTS HERE with the majestic single PREZ! With a catchy organ melody, heavy bass, exotic rhythms and lots of swagger, it's the perfect soundtrack to those halcyon days, hanging with friends, having “a little bit of rum and a little bit of fun."
PREZ has already made Freshonthenet.co.uk's FRESH FIVE last week, plus played on Leeds BBC Introducing AND a host of ska stations internationally.
Prez is a tribute to the Cuban composer and bandleader Perez Prado, who was popular in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, and penned famous pieces such as Guaglione and Mambo No. 5. This track was composed and recorded by Sam Thornton, a.k.a. King Zepha, at his 8-track home studio in Leeds, UK, with Sam laying down vocals, tenor sax, organ, guitar and percussion, before getting in his band mates to record trombone, double bass, drums and additional vocals.
King Zepha has been kicking out his own blend of rocksteady, dub, ska and soul for the past decade, with a couple of studio albums and a live album under his belt. Based in Leeds UK, King Zepha is truly international having performed regularly with his own band throughout Europe, and collaborated with other artists in Turkey, Hong Kong and even the United Nations HQ in New York.
