BROOKS MILGATE *ROLL WITH THE PUNCHES *

Brooks Milgate was born into music.  His parents met in a gospel group that they played in together around northeast Ohio.  Brooks came out the womb and was immediately surrounded by guitars and pianos.  He began piano lessons at 5 years old, while his father began teaching him bass guitar so he could accompany them on occasion at their Mennonite church.  By 12 years old, piano had his undivided attention.  Even though he was mostly just playing at church, Brooks stole his father’s cassette tapes of The Allman Brothers Band Brothers and Sisters, and Led Zeppelin IV, and that set him on the path that he’s still traveling today.

He moved to Florida in 1996 and attended Booker High School in the Visual and Performing Arts program where he studied music and continued for one year at University of South Florida.  But the allure of playing original music was too strong and he dropped out of college and moved to Atlanta GA in 2001 with friends and a growing catalog of original tunes.  The adventure in Atlanta was short lived, as many things are when you are only 19 years old.  From there, Brooks was awarded a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston which he attended from 2002-2005 and graduated Magna Cum Laude.  In New England Brooks established himself as a reliable and formidable pianist and organist and was not only playing around Boston and Worcester but began going on the road for many prominent blues acts.  Brooks has played alongside Sugar Ray and the Bluetones, Darrel Nulisch, Kid Ramos, Ana Popovic, Chris O’Leary, and Mark Hummel to name a few.

Over the years Brooks has been a vital part of many bands where he has helped write and arrange music, and now in January of 2026 we will get a full album of his own music.  "Roll With The Punches" is his first solo outing and it will be released by Momojo Records.  It features 11 songs - 9 originals and 2 covers.  The songs are uniquely his own while acknowledging his influences that range from boogie woogie to 70’s rock and roll, all the while keeping the focus on catchy melodies and sing along choruses.  Accompanied by a who’s who listing of musicians from around New England, "Roll With The Punches" has something for everybody.
